Client Spotlight on Rob – The Power of One Habit Change

After returning home from a trip to Italy last fall, Rob and I had an honest conversation about alcohol. Like many people, drinking had simply become part of his routine over the years. There wasn’t one dramatic event or health scare that forced the decision—we simply talked about whether life might be healthier and happier without it.

Together, we decided it was time for a change.

On January 1, 2026, Rob began his sobriety journey.

At first, the goal wasn’t to lose weight or get off medication. The goal was simply to see what would happen if he removed one habit that no longer served him. What happened over the following months exceeded both of our expectations.

Since giving up alcohol, Rob has lost 40 pounds. His blood pressure has returned to a normal range, allowing him to stop taking his blood pressure medication under the guidance of his physician. His blood sugar has also normalized, greatly reducing his risk for future health problems.

What surprised him most, though, was how much easier healthy eating became.

Without alcohol in the picture, late-night snacking disappeared, cravings became much easier to manage, and making nutritious food choices no longer felt like a daily battle. Instead of relying on willpower, healthy habits began to feel natural.

As the weight came off, his energy increased. He sleeps soundly through the night, wakes up feeling refreshed, and has the energy to enjoy each day. Exercise feels easier, everyday activities are more enjoyable, and his overall outlook on life has become noticeably more positive.

When I asked Rob what has made the biggest difference, he said:

“Giving up alcohol changed far more than I ever expected. At first, I thought I was just giving something up. Instead, I gained better sleep, more energy, lower blood pressure, normal blood sugar, and a healthier relationship with food. I feel better every single day, and I honestly don’t miss drinking. Looking back, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

Rob’s story is such a great reminder that lasting health doesn’t always require changing everything overnight. Sometimes one meaningful decision creates a ripple effect that transforms every other area of your life.

People often ask me where they should begin when they want to improve their health. My answer is usually the same: start with the habit that is holding you back the most. For Rob, it was alcohol. For someone else, it might be sugary drinks, fast food, skipping exercise, or getting too little sleep. You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to be willing to take the first step.

I’m incredibly proud of Rob for the commitment he made and the consistency he has shown over the past several months. His transformation is proof that it’s never too late to make a positive change, and that one habit really can change everything.
