Client Spotlight on Mindy – Making Changes Works!
Mindy first met with me for her consultation in late April. She was in menopause and struggled with 20 extra pounds. She felt discouraged with her weight and wasn’t very optimistic about being able to make changes. Her knees were arthritic, she had some issues with her feet and she felt depressed. She also had some gut issues -huge and painful bloating, chronic diarrhea, gas pains and irregular bowel movements.
Mindy was often skipping breakfast and went into her afternoon starving. She definitely tried to choose healthy foods at meals and snacks but the long depriving hours of not eating seemed to lead to nighttime sweet cravings. Overall the diet was too high in calories for her activity level and she was grabbing some higher sugar foods because she was starving at meal times. And some days she wasn’t even eating enough calories to help her energy and mood levels.
We set some activity goals – finding ways to work around the foot and knee issues and Mindy again embraced her daily walks and swims.
Mindy had a friend who had done the program so she was encouraged to start with BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan. She was still hesitant to believe that food could affect how she felt and that she would be able to really lose weight. After just a few days on the Detox we had a call because she was ready to quit. I was able to talk her off the ledge and encourage her with a few changes. The next thing I knew she had finished her two weeks, lost 11 lbs., felt amazing with more energy, less depression and no stomach pain or discomfort. Mindy had survived the challenge she put forward and the rewards were showing.
As Mindy began her BodyDesigns Lifestyle Diet Plan she knew that what she ate had a direct impact on not just her weight loss but on her stomach pain and her depression. Her attitude completely shifted to a positive one where she embraced the changes she made and loved her new lifestyle diet.
When Mindy started I wanted to get her moving again so we determined that she could swim (she has her own pool) daily and walk daily. Both these exercises would work with her limitations. Mindy had a few setbacks at first with beach walking causing some knee pain but she really didn’t let that stop her and got in the pool until it felt better then resumed walking on the beach and some flatter surfaces.
Mindy worked with me for 2 months and lost 12 lbs. but most of all she changed her attitude and loves how good she feels. Mindy told me she would never go back to her old habits and continues to follow her Lifestyle Plan looking to take off those last few lbs.
When I asked Mindy what helped her be successful this time she told me:
1. Taking the chance that this would work was the best thing I ever did because once I got off all the sugar during the Detox Plan, I felt so much better I was motivated to keep going. I didn’t realize how much food had an effect on how I felt.
2. Feeling less depressed and healing my gut issues was also a key factor because again I felt motivated by how I felt to want to keep going.
3. The daily accountability, being able to reach out to Mary for questions and coaching any time was helpful to keep me on track.
Mindy recently had a check up with her doctor and she had a total body scan and was told she lost all visceral fat and no muscle mass. The weight was coming off slowly but it was coming off in the right way. She also had normal blood pressure and the doctor noted that all her vitals were perfect and she looked healthy.
Congratulations Mindy! You did amazing but what really sticks out in my mind is how your mind changed from one of almost apathy and depression to excitement and energy. As you continue to follow your Lifestyle Plan I wish you the best of health always.
