Client Spotlight on Melissa and Russ: Teaming Up for Success
Melissa and Russ first came to me in early April with goals to lose body fat, increase muscle mass, reduce inflammation and overall learn how to eat healthy for life and for their family. They both did not have a lot of weight to loss but wanted to see definition and the results of their training as well learn how to eat for overall health. Both complained about inflammation in their body.
They both enjoyed exercise and worked out. Melissa was consistent with weight training and cardio and Russ was doing the same but not as often. Melissa was frustrated that she had about 10 lbs. of weight that wouldn’t budge despite watching her diet and exercising frequently. Russ wanted to lean out and didn’t set a weight loss goal but wanted to see fat loss while keeping his muscle.
When I looked at their diets, I found that they were really trying to be conscious of what they ate and were using a meal service that provided the ingredients for them to cook each night. They only ate out one a week and didn’t drink alcohol in excess. A deep dive into their eating habits gave me an overall impression that they needed to be accountable to calories and macronutrients to lean out and lose this layer of fat and make some changes in quality of the foods they choose to be sure to obtain optimal health at the same time.
After doing some education on what I think they needed to change they decided they wanted to do my 2-month program with coaching. They began with BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan which helped them to immediately get rid of inflammatory foods such as sugar, dairy and gluten. After 2 weeks Melissa had lost 7 lbs. and Russ had lost 11 lbs. and they both felt the inflammation disappear. They began personalized Lifestyle Diet Plans and continued to be accountable daily to their plans. I was really amazed at their commitment and how they embraced the changes. I always say that food is your medicine and you can embrace it or complain about it but the ones that choose to embrace it will see results.
And results was what they got! Both Melissa and Russ met their goals in less than 2 months with Melissa losing her 10 lbs. and Russ losing 12 lbs. They continued to eat well even after they met their goals and enjoyed some cheat meals here and there for balance. When I asked them what made them successful they told me:
1. We both wanted to make changes for our lifestyle so the education and coaching that went along with our plan was just what we needed to succeed.
2. Being accountable to a food log really opened our eyes to what we were eating each day and helped us to meet our goals while learning to do it in a healthy way.
3. Mary was there to answer our questions and coach us daily and also had us watch her videos so we learned so much about nutrition and how to feed not just ourselves but our kids for optimal health.
4. We both feel and look amazing in our early 40’s and know that we have a permanent foundation now on how to maintain good health in the future.
