Client Spotlight on Mike and Lucile– Teaming up for success
Mike and Lucile came to me at the beginning of January hoping to make some dietary changes. Mike is 65 and Lucile is 59 and they are the parents of 11-year-old twins. They wanted someone to look at how they were eating, help them improve their diet for optimal health so that they could maintain energy, focus and strength in their later years.
Mike and Lucile were both already exercising and staying strong and fit. Mike had high blood pressure and high cholesterol and set a goal to lose about 12 lbs. and improve both blood pressure and cholesterol. Lucile had set a goal to lose about 6 lbs. and also clear up some skin issues (psoriasis); she had previously given up all nightshade vegetables thinking that it would help but didn’t see any success.
Their diet was a mixture of healthy vegetables, organic protein, wild caught fish and healthy fats. With some prying I did discover though that there was some inconsistency with lots of snacks like cheese, crackers, popcorn, several meals out per week, especially with Mike’s travels, and wine most nights.
What I saw was that they were incorporating a lot of healthy options into their diet but they were also inconsistent and not really being accountable so they didn’t realize how much the eating out, snacking and wine were contributing to the few extra pounds and health issues.
They started with BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan and both had amazing success with Lucile adding back in her nightshades, losing about 4 lbs. and seeing her skin clear up. Mike lost 11 lbs. and his blood pressure dropped.
After the Detox Plan they both had custom Lifestyle Diet Plans that gave them options for meals and snacks throughout the day. Mike traveled a lot so he had to learn how to make better choices on the road.
They logged their food and used me as their coach for two months as they learned to make these changes into a permanent lifestyle. At the end of their program, Mike maintained his 11 lbs. weight loss, lowered his blood pressure, and is hoping to see a drop in his next cholesterol test. Lucile lost her 6 lbs. to meet her goal weight and cleared her skin up while enjoying all her nightshades that had been taken away earlier.
When I asked what helped them to be successful, they told me:
1. Logging my food and having the coaching was key to really learn and stay on track. We were surprised to see how the snacks, eating out, and wine were adding up prior to being accountable.
2. Seeing the excess weight come off, having my skin clear up (Lucile) and seeing my blood pressure drop (Mike) were all very motivating factors to wanting to keep up the healthy eating.
3. Once we got in the habit of making food a priority, we used a lot of Mary’s recipes and enjoyed easy meals at home with less snacking. Planning and prepping food, and having healthy, low calorie, low carb options available were difference makers.
