How To Stay Healthy and Fit As You Age
One of the things I try to get all my clients to do is to look into the future and really think about where they want to be with their health in their retirement years. We work hard for many years and the ultimate goal for many of us is to be able to enjoy retirement. But will you enjoy retirement? Will you be able to enjoy those years or will you be plagued with illness, aches and pains, fatigue, depression or a number of other ailments that could get in the way of enjoying the years that should be your best.*
Wellness is not about living without sickness, it’s about living “well”…being the best you can be at any age so you can enjoy activities and enjoy life without restrictions.
My client spotlights this month are a husband and wife who are the picture of health and wellness in their retirement years. These two are exactly who I want to be when I grow up! My spotlight this month is on Tim and Holly McCormick.
Holly started Personal Training with me 3 ½ years ago. She has lost 20 lbs of body fat, increased muscle mass, increased bone density and dropped several sizes in her clothing. That’s the part we can measure and see but on the inside I feel certain that she has improved the flow of blood throughout her body, decreased her risk of heart disease, decreased her risk of cancer and other diseases related to being overweight and under active. Holly is the picture of health and easily looks 20 years younger than her real age of 60. Her “Real Age” according to www.realage.com is 52. Holly is a vibrant, happy woman who wears a bikini and should be proud of the way she looks and feels at 60 years of age!
Tim joined Holly ready to improve on his fitness level 2 years ago. Tim has dropped over 15 lbs of body fat and built almost as much in muscle mass. At 61 years of age Tim has the body that would beat most 40 year old men in a fitness contest! As a matter of fact, he was recently warned that he needs to stop walking the neighborhood in that sleeveless shirt because someone is going to start hitting on him! Like Holly, I feel certain that the changes Tim has made in his diet and exercise have decreased his risk of heart disease, cancer and other ailments. Tim’s Real Age at www.realage.com is 49.
Congratulations Tim and Holly on living well and enjoying all that life has to offer now and many, many years to come! I hope that you are a positive role model for many people to follow suit. It’s never too late to live well and live right and reverse the aging process with good diet, exercise and lifestyle habits.
