Losing Menopausal Weight Gain with Accountability and Consistency
Lourdes first came to see me at the end of May. Like many of my clients, she had gained about 30 lbs. with menopause and was struggling to get it off. She also complained of rosacea and gut issues, specifically slow digestion.
She wasn’t eating bad but she also was snacking on some sugary and high calorie foods. Since she loved lots of good foods, I knew right away she would be very successful making the changes in her diet that she needed to be successful.
Exercise was also going to be an important component for her and this is where I saw she would have more difficulty. Lourdes was working long hours and caring for her mother which was taking up a lot of her free time. She liked to exercise and wanted to make it a priority but it always seemed to get pushed to the wayside.
She wanted help and accountability so she started my Lifestyles Weight Management System which is an 8-week program that combines a Lifestyle Diet Plan with personal training both in person and online. She also agreed to start with BodyDesigns Two Week Detox Plan to help her get rid of sweet cravings and determine if any foods were causing inflammation in her body.
After her two-week detox plan, she lost 12 lbs. and was well on her way to meeting her goal. She continued onto her Lifestyle Plan and determined that gluten and dairy were best kept out of her diet as it appeared that he skin and gut issues were directly related to both.
Her struggle was with exercise but over time she began to get more consistent with making it to spin classes and finding time to walk during the week. She always showed up for our sessions and continued even after her 8 weeks were up.
Lourdes met her goal and lost her 30 lbs. in 3 ½ months but best of all her skin cleared up and her gut issues disappeared. Today she continues to exercise with me weekly and is finding the time to get her workouts in on her own too.
When I asked her what she thought was the reason she was able to be so successful so quickly she told me:
1. Starting out with the Detox Plan really helped me get control of sweet cravings and I felt so good I didn’t want to go back to eating any other way.
2. My Lifestyle Plan was easy to follow as it was prepared with my likes and dislikes in mind and it just feels like I am eating normally not following a diet.
3. When my skin cleared up and my stomach felt better, I knew that food was really important for my health and well-being and not just for my weight loss.
4. Logging my food daily and having feedback and coaching from Mary helped me to incorporated permanent changes in to my life and I think this was one of the most important aspects of my program.
Let me add to this and say that Lourdes was consistent and accountable. She always logged and consistently prepared meals from real whole food and ate healthy. Most people fail to see continuous results because they fall off track too often and don’t really “see” what they did during that time (no logging, no accountability).
