Dehydrated Sweet Potato Chips

If you love crunch then these tasty chips might just become your favorite new snack food.  Made with real sweet potatoes and no added fat, these crispy chips are part of your clean eating plan.

If you don’t own a dehydrator you can buy one pretty cheap and I promise you that you are going to love the foods you can make for your family.  The one in the video is  the Nesco Dehydrator.  I like it because it comes with the jerky gun and cost only about $50.

You might also want to consider a Presto Maker.  It does not come with the jerky maker however it does have a timer which is handy if you make the jerky.  The Nesco has no timer so you would set your own timer to remind you to turn it off.  Most fruits and vegetables dehydrate for long periods of time – 12-24 hours – so the timer is not so much of an issue however jerky needs to be stopped between 4-6 hours or it will be overdone.

Whichever one you choose or perhaps you already have one of you own, this recipe is amazing.  Most of my clients complain that they miss the crunch of snacks when trying to eat healthy so here you go!  Crunch, nutrition and clean eating and so simply to make.  If you are following BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan, these chips are a detox friendly recipe.

Check out the video to see how easy these chips are to make or find the recipe below.

Dehydrated Sweet Potato Chips

2-3 sweet potatoes, sliced thin with a mandolin
1/4 cup Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
1/4 cup water
Nutritional Yeast

1. Slice sweet potatoes thin with a mandolin. Be careful not to cut your fingers! I usually save the very ends of the potatoes and just bake them to eat separately.
2. Place potato slices in a bowl and add 1/4 cup Bragg’s and 1/4 cup water. Mix together and let sit about 5 minutes.
3. Place sweet potato slices on dehydrator being careful not to overlap.
4. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast.
5. Dehydrate 18-24 hours. You can’t overdo so don’t worry about the time.
6. Remove and store in refrigerator. I separate into portion sized baggies with about 1/3 sweet potato in each bag.
