Client Spotlight on Stacey – From Discouraged to Determined for the Win

Stacey came to me in January ready to get healthy and lose some weight.  She suffered from acid reflux, had high cholesterol, wasn’t sleeping well and since her mom had diabetes she wanted to avoid developing the same issue.  She had been trying to lose weight on her own without success and was feeling a bit discouraged.  Determined to make a change that worked for her, she set up a consult with me.  She set a goal to lose 12 lbs. but her main goal was to feel better.  On the brink of menopause, she wanted to get her health in order before entering this next stage of her life.

Stacey’s diet was full of foods that contained dangerous artificial sweeteners and chemicals from quick processed foods and a lot of sugar.  She wanted to be more plant-based but was choosing too many high sugar or processed foods and not enough high quality plant based protein and real foods like vegetables.  The good news was that Stacey loved real food and really wanted to eat well and make changes.  Once she saw what her consult revealed she became started to realize why she wasn’t losing weight and felt more encouraged.

Stacey was active and in fact her high activity level without seeing the weight loss was one of the causes of her frustration.  She was however, doing mostly cardio but lacked any weight training.  I explained to her the importance of gaining and maintaining muscle as we age for both quality of life and weight control.  I also explained that exercise without proper diet can be a lost battle as we can’t out exercise a bad diet.

Stacey decided to start with my BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan to reset her metabolism by getting off inflammatory foods and sugar.  This reset diet helped her to not just drop those initial 8 lbs. but she found herself sleeping better and her reflux improved.   Feeling better, she was motivated to begin her Lifestyle Plan.  Her Lifestyle Plan was a personal plan developed for her likes, dislikes, goals etc.  Stacey wanted to be more plant-based but also needed easy so I gave her some options for simple food prep and some healthy organic meals she would have on hand for quick and easy meal prep.

Stacey was a model client who was accountable daily to her food logs and really embraced what I saw as a big change in her eating.  She learned how to have a very plant-based diet and still meet her needs for protein without going overboard on carbohydrates.  She lowered her net carbs by keeping the sugar out and getting high fiber foods into her day.  Most of all she consistently logged food and the weight came off.  She met her goal in 2 months and has now decided to keep going to lose a bit more weight.

Stacey also did some weight training sessions with me to learn proper form and what to do on her own at the gym.  She did a month of online training with me to follow up and has been maintaining a well-balanced exercise routine since.

When I asked Stacey what made her successful she told me:

1. I’m a rule follower so having a plan to follow, lots of suggestions and some easy meals made it easy.

2. Mary gave me daily feedback and encouragement which helped me gauge whether I was on track or needed to make some changes.

3. Over time my appetite decreased and I also don’t crave as many snacks or as large of meals as before the plan.

Stacey has made her new plan a lifestyle, not a diet, and that’s where her success starts.  Congratulations Stacey on embracing change to create a healthy future self.  I wish you the best of health always.
