Do You Need to Detox (Reset)?

You hear the word detox mentioned a lot these days. Visions of nasty tasting beverages and going for days without solid food go through many people’s minds. But what if I told you that you can detox your body while eating a satisfying menu of healthy, delicious foods? In fact, the best way to detox your body is with food.

Detoxification simply means the removal of toxins from the body. For an alcoholic, a detox program like those offered at Pacific Ridge in Oregon, would mean the removal of alcohol that has become toxic to their liver. Offering a luxury, holistic approach, 1 Method Alcohol Rehab Los Angeles combines medical expertise with a supportive environment. For the typical American eating the Standard American Diet (SAD), detoxification means the removal of sugar, chemicals, and “fake” foods that have become the main source of calories in many people’s diets today.  We can think of my detox plan as a body reset – clean eating for a period of time that allows your body to reset its normal metabolic functions.

The body has great detoxification systems but they need to be working right to be effective

The body has great detoxification systems already built in that function all day long to help us get rid of toxins and chemicals that we were not meant to ingest.  The liver, intestines, kidneys and even the skin are all systems that get rid of waste. The problem is that most of these systems can’t work properly when they have been clogged up by the many chemicals and toxins people are exposed to every day between their diet, drugs, lotions and even the air we breath.

The gut and liver are two very important detoxification systems that will directly affect one’s ability to lose weight. If these systems are malfunctioning, even the strictest of diets and exercise programs will result in frustration as people struggle to lose the pounds. Fortunately, if we get the liver and gut healthy, weight loss will follow along with good health.

Gut health is another important factor if we want to stay healthy

do you need to detoxHaving a healthy gut is so important to all aspects of health. Our intestinal tract is made of an entire ecosystem of bacteria that function as our immune system and allow for proper digestion of foods. For a person’s microbial system to be healthy it must be made up of mostly good bacteria. When people ingest too much sugar, toxins, drugs and other substances this balance of bacteria becomes disrupted allowing the “bad” bacteria to grow and push out the good guys that are necessary for our health. This condition is called dysbiosis and I truly believe that we have an epidemic of this in our country today.

The liver is another important detoxification system in our body and I think it’s fair to say that it’s equally as important as the gut. The liver must be able to break down fats and eliminate toxins. People who overeat the S.A.D, full of sugar, trans fats and chemicals, will surely end up with fatty liver. Fatty liver must be reversed for the liver to properly do its job and the body to lose weight.

We can repair these systems by eating the right foods

do you need to detox, foods that repair the body

Fortunately, nature has provided us what we need to repair these systems and keep them healthy. Detoxification can be simple and can be followed for a lifetime when we remove the foods that are harming our bodies and add the foods that aid our body to naturally release these substances.

As a Nutritionist for over 35 years, I have experienced first hand the ups and downs of weight loss and that’s why I developed BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan. The plan evolved over the past year as I tested it on my clients and began to see extraordinary results in both weight loss and health. People report anywhere from 5-14 lbs. of weight loss in the two weeks and in most cases the weight does not come back after the detox. In fact, most of my clients go on to lose to their goal weight. In addition, people report that they no longer have gut issues such as reflux and other IBS issues as well as having more energy, decreased inflammation and sleeping better.  Basically, since we take the time to reset normal metabolic systems, our body can continue to release fat as we move to reach our final goals.

So what is this detox plan all about?

It’s not about drinking a green, nasty drink all day long and sitting on the toilet! It is about eating real organic food, prepared in your own kitchen and eliminating processed foods, sugar, gluten and dairy. The plan does start your day off with a clean vegan protein shake but the rest of the day is real foods that you simply prepare in advance. After the two weeks is over dairy and gluten will be tested one at a time. If one of these foods was a problem it will become apparent immediately as your symptoms of inflammation, IBS and even weight gain will return. The most successful people have continued to lose weight on a personalized diet plan that I create for them that takes the principles of the detox plan but adds more variety, still eliminating the sugars, processed foods and in most cases gluten and dairy by participant choice.

Do you need to detox (reset)?

So let’s get back to the question at hand:  Do You Need to Detox?   Are you struggling to lose weight? Do you suffer from reflux, IBS, or other gut discomfort?  Do you have allergies, skin rashes or eczema?  Do you often have joint pain and inflammation? Are you always tired despite a good night sleep?   If you answered yes to any of these questions then I would say YES you do need the detox if your desire is to lose weight and get healthy.
