How To Stop Yo-Yo Dieting
Cindy first came to see me on the recommendation of her doctor. She had 3 specific goals in mind and was ready to make a change. First, she wanted to lose weight. She had been struggling with her weight for over 15 years and was ready to stop the cycle of losing and gaining it back. Her second goal was to reduce inflammation in her body particularly in her abdomen where she had a previous surgery that left her with some scar tissue. Lastly, although she loved to exercise, she had stopped earlier this year and was ready to commit to getting back to some activity that would fit in around her full time job.
The way she was gaining weight told me a lot about what was going on in her body
When I met Cindy and I spoke with her about her weight history I realized she had been gaining mostly in her abdominal region. Her current diet revealed that many of the foods Cindy considered “healthy” were actually causing her to spike insulin throughout the day. She was in a pattern that I often see where people deprive themselves eating “healthy” foods that don’t have enough calories and fat all day long and then overeat on snack foods at night. The night eating was also an issue because she wasn’t preparing foods in advance and would often grab something quick when she was tired after work.
Cindy loved all the right foods she just wasn’t choosing them
Despite her current lifestyle, Cindy loved all the right foods. It was just a matter of helping her learn how to plan and prepare so she was ready with the right foods and not setting herself up with the deprivation and binge cycle which is so common among people who struggle with their weight. She was willing and motivated to fit in walking in addition to making the necessary changes in her diet.
Cindy began my program with BodyDesigns Two-Week Detox Plan then followed with a personal Lifestyle Diet Plan. She logged her food in Lose It and sent me daily logs and continues to be accountable to her food intake. Cindy started with me at 159 lbs. and 39.2% body fat. Her goal was to lose 20 lbs. before the holidays. After the detox plan she had lost 6 lbs. and her abdominal inflammation was completely eliminated. When we tested gluten and dairy Cindy felt she was fine to eat some without issues however anytime she ate too much sugar or too many carbohydrates her inflammation would come right back.

Today Cindy is 3 lbs. from her goal! She has lost 8 inches and 5% percent of body fat! She looks and feels great and loves her new lifestyle eating plan. After some recent blood work her doctor was thrilled that her A1C (which measures blood sugar over a period of time) had dropped from 5.6 to 5.2. Her only regret is that she has not yet committed to regular exercise, which she feels would make a big difference in the speed of her weight loss. She recently bought a spin bike and is about to meet that last goal to incorporate regular exercise.
