How to Meet Your Goals This Year

New Year….New beginnings.  The new year is here and everyone seems to be starting it off with lots of resolutions to make this the year that they make a change in an undesirable habit.  The intentions are good ones but will they last?  Think back on last year or the year before…were your resolutions the same to lose weight, quit smoking, start exercising etc.  Can you get through the first month or two of the year and still be focused on your goals or are they long forgotten by February 1st?

When it comes to making changes in your life, too often we tell ourselves that we are “going” on a diet or “starting” an exercise program.  What you need to be telling yourself is that you are changing your lifestyle and incorporating these changes forever.   The key to success is in how you view these changes you are about to make and accept them as something you really want.   You should write down your goals and why they are important to you and post them somewhere that you can see daily to remember why you wanted to make these behavior changes.  If one of your goals is to lose weight and get healthy check out my blog – How To Keep Your New Years Resolution to Lose Weight.

Plan Your Strategy

 

Once you have your goals in place, take a look at what needs to be changed in order to accomplish the goals.  For the majority of my clients trying to lose weight, it all comes down to making it a priority to plan in advance both your food and your workout times.  Taking the time to plan your meals and snacks will set you up to succeed.

One little trick to success in this area is to write the goals down and laminate the sheet.  Keep the goal sheet in your bathroom so you read it each day and are reminded of your goals for the year.

After the planning phase comes the preparation.  Prepare the food in advance.  If you wait until lunch time to decide what you are going to eat than you are inevitably going to eat the wrong thing.  If you have your foods planned and prepared in advance then it’s easy to grab your food and snacks and bring them with you for the day.  I can’t stress enough how important it is to make this a priority in your life.

Make It a Priority

If you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “I just don’t have the time to do all that” then  you need to remember that if what you were doing now was working then you wouldn’t need to change!  Taking some time for yourself to be accountable to your actions is crucial to success!
